The rhythm section of Murf Adams on bass (laying down the funk and jazz lines effortlessly as required) and Justin Mutter on drums (who can also jazz it up) is rock solid and perfectly matched to the task.

   Essential spiritual jazz funk lp from Nilo Espinoza and his band, killer grooves throughout the album including big drums, raw clavinet, wah wah guitar, phased Fender Rhodes and of course great sax and flute solo by the leader. The record is in strong VG++ copy, only some superficial marks under strong lamp, plays excellent!!

   Funk is pretty consistently sacrificed to the romantic imperative on this pleasant, but ultimately not very interesting, collection. There's a gentle strut underlying Rick Brown's smooth-jazz trumpet showcase "Nightfall," and Avenue Blue shakes its understated booty on "A Woman's Touch." But Steve Cole's "Stay Awhile" is more typical -- it buries any perceptible rhythmic tension under a thick.
